To help detect and identify infections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the cause of tuberculosis (TB), and other Mycobacterium species, which are known as acid-fast bacilli (AFB); to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

Acid Fast Susceptibility testing plays a very important role because of developing antifungal resistance and intrinsic resistance of certain candida species to antifungal agents like Amphotericin B, Fluconazole, Voriconazole, 5-Fluorocytosine & Caspofungin.
