Why it is Done
This test is advised in aid the diagnose of pancreatic cancer, monitor treatment response and watch for or detect recurrence.
Elevated CA19.9 may also be seen in other non-malignant conditions (thyroid disease, liver disease, bile duct obstruction, pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis) and malignancies (lung, stomach, liver, gallbladder and bile duct, colorectal, ovarian cancer).
What is this test
CA 19.9 is useful to monitor the response to treatment and if elevated suggests recurrence in patients with Pancreatic Cancer. Elevated concentrations are not specific. Use in patients with other medical conditions is not advised.
