To help confirm or rule out a rare adrenal tumor called a pheochromocytoma or a rare extra-adrenal tumor called a paraganglioma; these tumors produce excess hormones called catecholamines, which are broken down to metanephrines.

What is this test

This assay is useful in the diagnosis of Pheochromocytoma and Paraganglioma. It is also used as an auxiliary test to Urine Vanil Mandelic Acid & Homovanilic Acid determination in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with Neuroblastoma and related tumors. Plasma Metanephrine is the preferred test for the diagnosis of Pheochromocytoma. It is also useful for evaluating patients with Autonomic dysfunction / failure or Autonomic neuropathy.
