The test may be ordered to diagnose the cause of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, jaundice or Rh disease in humans. The indirect Coombs' test is used for the analysis of unbound circulating antibodies in the serum sample, against a series of standardized red blood cells.
What is this test
Coombs' Test is frequently used in the evaluation of a jaundiced infant. This test is used to check antibodies that act against the red blood cells in the body, which bind to them causing premature red blood cell destruction (haemolysis).
