Why it is Done

LH testing helps analyze the pituitary function, a woman’s egg supply (ovarian reserve) , a man’s sperm count , menstrual problems-such as irregular or absent menstrual periods (amenorrhea) , gonadal failure , pituitary tumors ,monitor a woman's response to medicines given to stimulate ovulation etc.

What is this test

The luteinizing hormone is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland in the brain and is predominantly involved with sexual development. A luteinizing hormone test analyses the quantities and levels of this hormone either in a blood sample or a urine sample. LH regulates the menstrual cycle and egg release (ovulation) in females.
