Why it is Done

This test is done as a follow-up marker in patients with neuron-specific enolase-secreting tumors of any type, as nn auxiliary test in the diagnosis of small cell lung carcinoma, carcinoids, islet cell tumors and neuroblastomas, assessment of comatose patients

What is this test

Neuron Specific Enolase is a specific test that is used to detect small cancerous growth in the lung region of a patient. A specialized test kit known as Enzyme Immunoassay is used to detect unusual concentration of the NSE enzyme in the body.
