Thyroid gland located in your body secretes two main hormones T3, T4 which helps to control the rate at which your body uses energy. TSH another hormone secreted by the pituitary gland, in turn, regulates the production of T3, T4 hormones. Levels of these hormones may increase or decrease in various diseases of the thyroid gland. This test measures the levels of these hormones.
Why is it done?

Thyroid profile is done for the following reasons:

-Screening: It is highly recommended for people over the age of 60 and pregnant women to help early detection and treatment. It is useful to screen when you experience any of the following symptoms:
o Weight gain/weight loss o Cold/heat intolerance o Menstrual irregularity in women o Anxiety
o Puffiness around the eyes
o Tremors in the hands
o Hair loss

- Monitoring: This test not only helps to monitor thyroid hormone levels but also to understand the severity of disease and delay or prevent complications such as heart problems, mental illness, metabolic disorders, infertility and birth defects in newborns.

- Management: Doing this test regularly helps to check the effectiveness of treatment and helps the doctor to change the treatment plan accordingly.

  • Alcohol: Please abstain from alcohol before the test
  • Medication: Any pre-existing medication should only be stopped after consultation with the referring Physician

Soft Copy (Portal/Email) : If the sample is collected before 12 noon then the report will get delivered as per Reporting Time / Maximum TAT (Turn Around Time) indicated with the test. For samples collected after 12 Noon, 12 hours may be added to the Report Turn Around TimeHard Copy : Delivered at home upon request. A small convenience fee may apply.

What is this test
