A chest computed tomography scan, or chest CT scan, is a painless, non-invasive test. It creates precise pictures of the structures in your chest, such as your lungs, heart, blood vessels, pleura etc. A chest CT scan is a type of x ray. However, a CT scan's pictures show more detail than pictures from a standard?chest x ray. HRCT uses narrow slice width and a high spatial resolution image reconstruction algorithm to get high resolution pictures compared to conventional CT.
