Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. It is a safe and painless procedure. An abdominal ultrasound produces a picture of the organs and other structures in the upper abdomen.


Why is ULTRASOUND - ABDOMEN done ?

Ultrasound abdomen is done to evaluate the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidney, abdominal aorta and other blood vessels of the abdomen.

Ultrasound is used to help diagnose a variety of conditions, such as pain in abdomen, abdominal distention, abnormal liver function, gallstones, kidney stones, abdominal aortic aneurysm, enlarged organs

 

ULTRASOUND - ABDOMEN Instructions

CCO:
No food intake for atleast 8 hours before the Ultrasound scan is done.Ask the patient if any barium studies were done in the past 2days. Ask the patient to drink atleast 1-2 litres of water one hour before the test.Patient must have full bladder before the test is performed.Patient should not empty their bladder before the test is completed.

SLAs:
For Ultrasound test scheduled before 2 PM eConsultation will be scheduled before 9 PM same day and the physical reports to be delivered by 10 PM same day
For Ultrasound test scheduled after 2 PM eConsultation to start from 8 AM next day and the physical reports to be delivered starting from 8 AM next day

Ultrasound Abdomen helps the radiologist in visualization of the abdominal  organs like kidneys, liver, gall bladder, bladder, prostate(in males), uterus(in females) etc. Abnormality in the morphology, size and presence of growths and tumors can be easily found out using an ultrasound
