Ultrasound imaging of the thyroid uses sound waves to produce pictures of the thyroid and surrounding tissues. You will be advised an ultrasound if your doctor notices presence of lumps, cysts, swelling in the thyroid. Ultrasound is safe, non-invasive, and does not use ionizing radiation.Where is ultrasound useful? Ultrasound is used in many parts of the body, specifically to view the fetus, for other gynecological abnormalities and to view the abdomen, orbits, thyroid gland, breast, testes, etc. Are there any dangers? There is no known danger to the use of ultrasound Are there any dyes in ultrasound, as in X-rays? As of now there are no "dyes" injected in routine ultrasound practice. Contrast media however are being evaluated for use in clinical trials. Who is qualified to do ultrasound? Only radiologists trained in ultrasound should perform these investigations. In many situations, however, gynecologists also perform ultrasound examinations on their own patients; if adequately trained/certified, this is acceptable.


Why is ULTRASOUND - THYROID done ?

A thyroid ultrasound may be ordered if a thyroid function test is abnormal or if you doctor feels a growth on your thyroid while examining your neck. An ultrasound can also check an underactive or overactive thyroid gland. A thyroid ultrasound is used to examine the thyroid for abnormalities, including cysts, nodules, tumors.

There are no dietary restrictions or special preparations required for this scan

SLAs:
For Ultrasound test scheduled before 2 PM eConsultation will be scheduled before 9 PM same day and the physical reports to be delivered by 10 PM same day
For Ultrasound test scheduled after 2 PM eConsultation to start from 8 AM next day and the physical reports to be delivered starting from 8 AM next day
