TIFFA scan is usually advised by the Obstetricians during the second trimester.TIFFA scan uses ultrasound to screen for foetal abnormalities. It checks for both the internal and external anomalies during the prenatal period. TIFFA scan is also known as targeted imaging for foetal anomalies, second trimester anatomy scan and foetal anomaly scan.Where is ultrasound useful? Ultrasound is used in many parts of the body, specifically to view the fetus, for other gynecological abnormalities and to view the abdomen, orbits, thyroid gland, breast, testes, etc. Are there any dangers? There is no known danger to the use of ultrasound Are there any dyes in ultrasound, as in X-rays? As of now there are no "dyes" injected in routine ultrasound practice. Contrast media however are being evaluated for use in clinical trials. Who is qualified to do ultrasound? Only radiologists trained in ultrasound should perform these investigations. In many situations, however, gynecologists also perform ultrasound examinations on their own patients; if adequately trained/certified, this is acceptable.


Why is ULTRASOUND TVS EARLY PREGNANCY done ?

In the early pregnancy, the developing embryo is very small (at 6 weeks gestation, the baby is only 5-9mm long) and a transvaginal ultrasound may be required to get a better image of the baby.

CCO:
No food intake for atleast 8 hours before the Ultrasound scan is done.Ask the patient if any barium studies were done in the past 2days. Ask the patient to drink atleast 1-2 litres of water one hour before the test.Patient must have full bladder before the test is performed.Patient should not empty their bladder before the test is completed.
SLAs:
For Ultrasound test scheduled before 2 PM eConsultation will be scheduled before 9 PM same day and the physical reports to be delivered by 10 PM same day
For Ultrasound test scheduled after 2 PM eConsultation to start from 8 AM next day and the physical reports to be delivered starting from 8 AM next day

Why is ULTRASOUND TVS EARLY PREGNANCY ?

Transvaginal Ultrasound is safe and commonly performed during all stages of pregnancy, including the first trimester.
